*Statutory - in an ECA Low sulphur IFO must be max 0.1%S (as of Jan 2015 - and the product produced to meet this by the refineries is low viscosity and has little resemblence to normal 380cst but more like a RMA80 product or a distillate) and 3.5%S for all other areas. The Global Cap brought into force on 1st January 2012 has no grace period under Marpol Annex VI. Also, there is no policy for residual fuel aboard with sulpur content more than 3.5%. If fuel is higher than 3.5%in sulphur content than this is not compliant with Marpol Annex VI.
